#HOWTECHAFFECTS: OUR MEMORY

As we all know, technology affects us every day in every aspect of our lives. It constantly changes our memory, our opinions and the way we feel about the things that happen around us.

Our brain is similar to a complex warehouse of data, it can store almost an unlimited amount of information, but with the volume of it that is now available to us every day, through our phones or computers , this ability is changing .

The truth is, the more information we receive, the less we remember it.

Let’s take a look at the “Google effect“ or “digital amnesia”. This phenomenon consists on the tendency to forget information that can easily be found online, which means that people are less likely to memorize information that they know they can find effortlessly on the Internet.

Some studies even show that this might be causing brain damage to the people that are in constant contact with any form of technological source of information, as it takes little to no effort from the brain to get to the data and save it.

Check the video down below to get more information about the “Google effect “ and how it affects us every day.

The “Google effect“ changes not only our memory but also our attention spam. Research has shown that “people check their phones an average of 46 times a day“, which means we have a hard time focusing on one single task, as our brain is constantly distracted with the information we are receiving.

People also believe that with the rise of the technological world, it is more productive to study or take notes in the computer, but did you know that students who do so on paper are more likely to memorize it then those who do it on the computer or any other kind of technological device?

A recent study found that writing by hand allows the brain to keep up with the information flow and therefore memorize it and understand it more rapidly and if we do it in the computer, our brain is more focused in typing the right letters than in understanding the information that it is receiving.

Check the video down below to learn some tricks on how to improve your memory capacity and make your life easier when studying for any type of subjects.
